August 16th, 12pm – 2pm CDT (10am – 12pm Pacific)
This will be an online workshop. In this session we will discuss specific historical contexts and contemporary intergenerational patterns of the Chicanx/Latinx community. A genogram is a specific type of diagram originally used in family therapy that outlines the history of the behavior patterns (such as divorce, close relationships, drug use) of a family over several generations. In this workshop, we will learn how to center historical and contemporary Chicanx cultural resources within one’s family history, via a Healing Genogram, to address current struggles, including traumas. Family stories and mesoamerican ancestral concepts will serve as guiding assets. We will use an adapted form of the Immigration Resource Genogram developed by Yznaga (2008) to map cultural assets with two case study applications as well as participants’ own stories so they may begin to construct their own Healing Genogram. Participants will work together in small break out groups.
